w gene expression from P{wAR} is completely repressed in wAR4-24E2/+ flies, partial repression is seen when wAR4-24E2 is in trans. wAR4-24E2 can also exert an effect on wAR4-24E1 in trans, wAR4-24E1/wAR4-24E2 flies have less pigmentation ventrally than wAR4-24E1 homozygotes or heterozygotes.
Lethal, presumably due to a second site mutation. Isolated as a derivative of wAR4-24. E2 cannot repress w+ or wa expression nor cause dorsal repression of w gene expression of a third chromosome transposition of P{wAR}. These results suggest that the trans effects of wAR4-24, E1 and E2 on each other are proximity-dependent effects, possibly mediated by somatic chromosome pairing.
