lacZ reporter expression is driven by 4 copies of a mutated module E of the Dfd epidermal autoregulatory element (Dfd EAE), a cluster of point mutations to increase sequence similarity to fragment H of Dhyd\Dfd, fused to an Hsp70 minimal promoter.
