The ectopic expression of discohs.PC after heat-shock treatment results in gross morphological abnormalities in later embryogenesis, including defects in the central and peripheral nervous system and aberrant development of the optic lobe primordia. The most pronounced defects are seen when heat-shocked between 4 and 8 hours of development.
