A 2.5kb EcoRI-XbaI fragment of vvl regulatory sequences (from -7.0 to -4.5kb) is fused upstream of a basal Hsp70 promoter driving lacZ expression.

2.4kb EcoRI XbaI fragment of vvl genomic tracheal- and MGM-specific regulatory DNA (position -4.6 to -7.0kb) is fused to a truncated Hsp70 promoter and lacZ coding region.

      The EcollacZ reporter gene is stronglyexpressed in the developing tracheal tree and in the lateral oenocyteclusters but not in the stage 10/11 mesectoderm or the epidermis wherevvl is normally strongly expressed. It is also expressed in the middle(MGM) and anterior (MGA) pairs of midline glia.
