      encR1/encQ4 mutant males progress through spermatogenesis normally, and no evidence of extra transit amplification of germline cysts prior to differentiation is observed.

      Mutant egg chambers show a polyploid oocyte nucleus phenotype. They also show defects in karyosome morphology; the nuclear material is seen to line the inside of the nuclear membrane.

      Eggs derived from hemizygous females show a cold-sensitive ventralised egg-shell phenotype. More than 95% of the ventralised eggs have a single dorsal appendage at 18oC.

      Egg chambers exhibit doubling of the number of nurse cells, or in a small number of cases the egg chambers are bipolar or have less than 15 nurse cells. Phenotype is more severe at 25oC.
