5.5kb fragment containing the ninaE gene, in which a premature UGA stop codon replaces residue L309. The truncated protein produced is missing the retinal binding site (Lys319).

      The rhabdomeres of the ommatidia are smaller than wild-type. R7 is normal. The pseudopupil is similar in appearance to that of ninaE17. ERG is abnormal (no on-transient is produced). Partially suppressed by tRNA:L3:49Faopal.
