Egg chamber growth and nurse cell chromosome morphological changes arrest between stages 4 and 7. The terminal phenotype for stw egg chambers is germ cell apoptosis. In some egg chambers the presumptive oocyte fails to become meiotic and instead becomes polyploid, in some the oocyte nuclear chromatin is often larger than a wild type karyosome and in a few there are supernumerary germ cells or too few germ cells.
