      D.melanogaster flies transformed with Dpse\Est-5BtBa produce a new esterase activity with the characteristics of the D.pseudoobscura.pseudoobscura Est-5 enzyme. D.melanogaster flies transformed with Dpse\Est-5CtBa or Dpse\Est-5AtBa do not produce any new esterase activity. This suggests that Dpse\Est-5B and not Dpse\Est-5A or Dpse\Est-5C encodes the Est-5 enzyme in D.pseudoobscura.pseudoobscura.
