FlyBase curator comment: this entry is used to capture phenotypic information when the particular allele (or allele combination) used by the author could not be determined but the context of the experiment suggests that the phenotype being described is some kind of loss of function.
The Bolwig's organ is intact in mutant embryos. The Bolwig's nerve consists of 2-3 axon bundles which explore a much broader brain surface area than wild-type. In more than 50% of the mutant embryos the nerve branched of the BN deviate between 45o and 60o from their normal direction, resulting in severely branched nerves. Most BN nerve branches fail to reach P2, and those that do follow an abnormal path.
