Generated using the Loua 83 P-strain. Unstable allele, reverting either to wild-type or a weaker sn phenotype. The reversion rate is 0.92%. The revertant alleles are dominant over the progenitor snBL4 allele.
The alleles snBL4, snBL6 and snBL8 may be derived from a single premeiotic event. Appreciable somatic reversion of this allele, generating mosaics having patches of cuticle with a wild-type phenotype, is seen. The rate of somatic reversion is 1.85%. The movements of the P-elements in these somatic reversions occur early in development, and require a trans-acting maternal effect component (P\TMo). Somatic reversion occurs preferentially in attached-X stocks.
