Spermatogenesis proceeds normally until spermatid bundles have fully elongated. Individualised motile sperm are never observed and the seminal vesicle remains free of sperm indicating the defect occurs in the region of the terminal epithelium at the end of the testis tube during very late events of sperm maturation.
Remobilisation experiments confirm the insertion is responsible for the male sterile phenotype.
