      One copy of Hsap\DCCenh.sev does not produce an obvious phenotype. Increasing multiple copies increase the severity of a rough eye phenotype. Eyes are smaller than normal with fusion of ommatidia and bristle defects. Defects in ommatidial orientation (dorsal/ventral and/or anterior/posterior axes) are also observed. Defects in the formation of pigment cells at the boundaries between adjacent ommatidia. Ommatidia are also missing R7 cells, loss of outer photoreceptors is also seen in some ommatidia.
