The tubular ribbons and to a minor degree, also the threads lampbrush loops are modified.
The program of shaping of the primary spermatocyte nucleus during meiotic prophase is abnormal in homozygous males. The morphology of the tubular ribbons Y chromosomal lampbrush loop in the primary spermatocytes is abnormal. Spermatid nuclei of unequal size are seen, suggesting that male meiosis is irregular. Nebenkern are usually not formed in the spermatids of homozygous males. In some cysts, aggregations of mitochondria and unidentified material do form postmeiotically, but these organelles do not fuse and fail to form proper Nebenkern. Spermatid development arrests at early elongation and the spermatids degenerate.
