Nebenkern are usually not formed in the spermatids of homozygous males. In some cysts, aggregations of mitochondria and unidentified material do form postmeiotically, but these organelles do not fuse and fail to form proper Nebenkern. Development of the protein body is abnormal. Spermatid development arrests at early elongation.
