    The gl-positive corpora cardiaca precursor cells are missing in stage 12 mutant embryos.

    The heart and visceral muscles are not formed in homozygous embryos.

    The segmental border muscle (SBM) promuscular clusters and most of the SBM fibres are absent.

    Germ cells are able to migrate through the gut epithelium to find their target mesodermal cells and remain associated with somatic gonadal precursors (SGPs) throughout germ band retraction. The germ cells attempt to line up, but do not achieve the organised nature that they attain in wild type embryos. The alignment continues to deteriorate as development ensues resulting in the dispersion of germ cells at stage 14.
