FlyBase curator comment: this entry is used to capture phenotypic information when the particular allele (or allele combination) used by the author could not be determined but the context of the experiment suggests that the phenotype being described is some kind of loss of function.
Mutant arista laterals are shorter than normal. There is a 6 hour delay in lateral initiation and a decreased rate of elongation. The laterals appear thinner than normal. There are an increased number of F-actin bundles in the lateral and the bundles are thinner and extend much farther into the centre of the lateral than normal. The actin filaments in each bundle appear losser than normal. The density of microtubules is similar to wild type.
Trichomes are missing or very short. Adults cannot fly or walk on glass. Larvae have a reduced number of denticles, and the remaining denticles are thin and bent. Hairs are largely absent but sensory hairs are not affected.
