Duoxunspecified homozygous mutant ready-to-hatch larvae do not have air filled tracheae, unlike controls, but they are not abnormally contracted within the egg; the cuticle is impermeable, similar to controls; when larvae are freed from the egg, a thin layer of cuticle sometimes detaches from the body surface, which does not occur in controls.
