A flam1/flam1 permissive germline (which is surrounded by a flam1/flamovoD1 restrictive soma) is not sufficient by itself to induce the high frequency of ovoD1 inactivation (indicative of gypsy transposition) which is seen in the progeny of non-mosaic flam1/flam1 control females. The frequency of ovoD1 inactivation in the progeny of mosaic females (containing a flam1/flam1 permissive germline surrounded by a flam1/flamovoD1 restrictive soma) and of non-mosaic flam1/flamovoD1 females is one order of magnitude less than that of non-mosaic flam1/flam1 control females. The flam2G/flamovoD1 genotype is permissive for gypsy element mobilisation. The flamovoD1/flamFM7c genotype does not allow gypsy element mobilisation.
The flamovoD1 restrictive allele may be either dominant or recessive depending on the permissive allele it is combined with.
