In the absence of any upwards modifiers of RanGap, RanGapSd.12A causes only a low level of distortion.
Flies carrying RanGapSd.12A show a high level of segregation distortion against target chromosomes carrying Rsps or Rspss.
When RanGapSd.12A is introduced into a background containing the "SD-5Rev7" chromosome (which contains the E(SD)unspecified, Rspi, M(Sd)unspecified and St-SDunspecified components of the SD system) and an Rspss chromosome, strong distortion of the Rspss chromosome is seen. When RanGapSd.12A is introduced into a background containing the Df(2L)Sd77 chromosome (which contains the E(SD)unspecified, Rspi, M(Sd)unspecified and St-SDunspecified components of the SD system) and an Rspss chromosome, strong distortion of the Rspss chromosome is seen. Distortion of the Rspss chromosome caused by RanGapSd.12A is eliminated in the presence of the "SD-5Rev16" chromosome (which contains a Suppressor of SD, RanGapSD, E(SD)unspecified, Rspi, M(Sd)unspecified and St-SDunspecified) which is a strong suppressor of distortion.
