eve sequences from -4.8 to +0.2kb (relative to the eve transcription start site) are fused in frame to lacZ. Sequences from downstream of the eve transcription unit (+1.5 to +8.4kb relative to the transcription start site) are fused downstream of the lacZ coding region.
