Most mutant larvae survive till 3rd instar larvae, about 90% pupate. Development of larvae appears normal until the 3rd instar wandering phase. At this stage the mutants appear sluggish and fail to wander normally, causing them to either arrest or pupate on or near the food source. Those that pupate do occasionally reach pharate adult stage, but do not eclose. the overall structure of the nervous system appears normal. The addition of Chi^unspecified had no effect on the phenotype of homozygous mutants.
