Expression of OptixScer\UAS.cSa under the control of Scer\GAL4dpp.blk1 results in the formation of ectopic eye structures in the antenna and the anterior medial region of the head, but not in the legs or wings. The normal eyes are reduced in size and rarely extra ocelli and interocellar bristles are detected around the vertex region. The frequency of induction of ectopic eyes is 20%.

Ectopic eyes are still produced if OptixScer\UAS.cSa is expressed under the control of Scer\GAL4dpp.blk1 in an ey2 background. The frequency of occurrence of ectopic eyes is not changed from when OptixScer\UAS.cSa is expressed under the control of Scer\GAL4dpp.blk1 in a wild-type background, but the frequency of induction of extra ocelli is increased.
