The full length Mmus\Map3k7 cDNA is expressed under the control of GMR regulatory sequences.
Expression of Mmus\Tak1GMR.PT in the eye produces relatively weak defects in the compound eye. About half of mutant flies have a rough eye phenotype and a reduction in the size of the eye, many ommatidia typically in the medial region are fused to each other. Some of these ommatidia are missing photoreceptors, while others show disrupted rows of pigment granules. In the pupal eye disc, only two or three (as opposed to 4 in wild-type) cone cells are observed. The number of primary pigment cells are relatively normal, but occasionally one of these are also missing. Secondary and tertiary pigment cells are rarely seen in mutant retina.
