Flies show a low sensitivity to trehalose in a two-choice preference test. Sensitivity to sucrose, glucose and fructose is normal when measured using the proboscis extension reflex, whereas sensitivity to trehalose is reduced.
FlyBase curator comment: FBrf0139891, FBrf0138267 and FBrf0141681 argue that the trehalose-response phenotype in fact maps to Gr5a which maps adjacent to, and is transcribed divergently from, Tre1. If so, the rescue data of Tre1Δ1 by Tre1hs.PI reported in FBrf0128502 is unexplained.
