Construct: An Act5C promoter drives expression of part of I-element\gag (from +1 to +1104bp) in antisense orientation. The I-element\gag sequence contains missense mutations of both ATG187 and ATG586 to TAG and CGT codons and deletion of the first 5 nucleotides essential for I-element promoter activity.
P{I-element\gag.RZAP} shows a zygotic repressive effect; it decreases the intensity of the female sterile phenotype that is normally seen in the female progeny of a cross of inducer (I) males with reactive (R) females. P{I-element\gag.RZAP} shows a maternal and a paternal repressive effect on the degree of female sterility seen as a result a cross of inducer (I) males with reactive (R) females. The maternal repressive effect increases with the copy number of the transgene.
