      Homozygotes show pleiotropic defects in the eye. The number of cone cells is reduced, bristle defects are seen, the number of 1o pigment cells is reduced and extra 2o/3o pigment cells are seen. The "astral" phenotype, when four 2o/3o pigment cells surround a bristle is also seen in these flies.
