Construct: A heat shock promoter drives expression of Tcas\ftz.
Expression of Tcas\ftzhs.PL using heat shock during larval development causes transformations of the antenna towards leg, with the arista taking on the characteristics of the tarsus. Expression of Tcas\ftzhs.PL using heat shock at 5.5 hours after egg laying results in head involution defects and transformation of T1 towards T2 (shown by a reduction in the ventral beard). Expression of Tcas\ftzhs.PL at the blastoderm stage results in an "anti-ftz" phenotype in 30-40% of embryos; most of the ftz-independent parasegments are deleted.
