Most mutant animals survive through embryogenesis. Up to 50% of mutants survive until metamorphosis and die as pupae that lack any sign of adult structures. Third instar larvae are 50% the size of their wild-type siblings. Imaginal discs cannot be seen in these larvae and brain lobes are reduced to 50% of the diameter of wild type.
