      Expression of discoC.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PF results in small, rough eyes which lack most pigmentation. The cone cells appear fused, interommatidial bristles are displaced or missing and many tiny bristles of unknown origin are present. Expression of discoC.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4ey.PS results in approximately 50% lethality. 30% of the survivors have reduced eyes or lack one or both eyes. The ommatidia appear normal.
