      SLC5A11EY21708/SLC5A11UY1824 flies show defects in taste-independent nutrient selection. When L-glucose is more concentrated, the flies choose L-glucose over D-glucose in a two-choice assay after 18 hours of starvation.

      Expression of SLC5A11UY1824 under the control of Scer\GAL4da.G32 results in a shorter life span under control conditions and in an increased resistance to hydrogen peroxide, as compared to controls.
