Imprecise excision of the P{lacW}tlkG0054 insertion has created a 1143bp deletion of some of the first intron and a portion of exon 2. A 22bp sequence interval replaces he deleted DNA.
At 25oC females with mutant germ-line clones are sterile, layoing a small number of eggs that collapse shortly after deposition. At 18oC these females lay eggs that look normal, but a substantial portion of them appear to be shorter than wild type. Mutant embryos fail to hatch, and about two-thirds die during the first nine nuclear divisions. The other embryos form a syncitial blastoderm and only 52% of total embryos initiate gastrulation - some of them develop into hatching larvae.
