okr782/okr782 females exhibit reduced fertility, and female meioses show a significant increase in X chromosome non-disjunction, a decrease in crossover frequency along most of the X and 3rd chromosomes, but an increase in crossover frequency in some of the regions close to the centromere. Crossover frequency of chromosome 2 is decreased.
When exposed to X-rays during the first 8 hours of embryonic development, the ratio of Df(2L)JS17/okr17-11 to okr17-11/+ flies in the offspring of Df(2L)JS17/okr17-11 females decreases with increasing x-ray dosage (0-15 Gy at about 1 Gy/min). In contrast, the ratio of Df(2L)JS17/okr17-11 to okr17-11/+ flies in the offspring of Df(2L)JS17/+ females does not decrease with dosage. At a dose of 9 Gy, nearly a fourfold difference in sensitivity is seen between the Df(2L)JS17/okr17-11 offspring from okr17-11 homozygous females in comparison to the offspring from Df(2L)JS17/+ females. Among 8-24 or 24-48 hour-old embryos and larvae, no difference in sensitivity is seen between Df(2L)JS17/okr17-11 offspring from okr17-11 homozygous mothers and those from Df(2L)JS17/+.
okr782 has abnormal meiotic cell cycle phenotype, enhanceable by c(2)MZ0810/c(2)MZ0810
okr782/okr782, c(2)MZ0810/c(2)MZ0810 double mutant female meioses exhibit reduced crossover frequency along most of the X chromosome, but significantly higher crossover frequency near the centromere, as compared to either single mutant.
