      Embryos that lack maternal gl(2R)18-14 function (derived from females carrying homozygous germ line clones) have fused abdominal ventral denticle belts. Embryos that lack both maternal and zygotic gl(2R)18-14 function (derived from females carrying homozygous germ line clones mated to mutant males) have a more severe segmentation and head defect. Homozygotes do not survive to adulthood.
