Sequence from +8.0kb to +8.6kb (coordinates relative to the eve transcription start site) of the eve genomic region has been deleted, thus sequences from -6.4kb to +8.0kb and from +8.6kb to +9.2kb of eve are present.

      Mesodermal expression of eve is normal in null eve mutants carrying eveΔRP2C. However, the odd-numbered parasegments are narrower than normal, indicating a lower activity at the blastoderm stage. Only one out of five lines tested allowed rescue to adulthood.

      eve null mutants carrying a copy of eveΔRP2A and eveΔRP2C in trans show normal mesodermal expression of eve and normal segmentation and are efficiently rescued to adulthood.
