A 424bp fragment from the gcm promoter region, which contains 223bp of 5' flanking sequence (relative to the start of the longest published gcm cDNA - accession number D64040), the 150bp 5' UTR and sequence encoding the first 17 amino acids of gcm, is fused to lacZ.
