Expression of sNPFdsRNA.UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4Ilp7.PY, but not Scer\GAL4ppk.PG, in larvae slightly, but significantly, reduces nociceptive movement responses following stimulation with a von Frey filament, compared to controls; this phenotype is exacerbated in sNPFMI01807 or sNPFc00448 heterozygotes.

Females expressing sNPFdsRNA.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4c584 travel longer distances and have a higher mean walking speed than controls in a walking assay. Males expressing sNPFdsRNA.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4c584 travel longer distances in a walking assay, but their mean walking speed is normal.

Expressing sNPFdsRNA.UAS under the control of either Scer\GAL4dimm-929 or Scer\GAL4Kurs6 results in a significant reduction in lifespan when flies are deprived of food and water. Expression under the control of Scer\GAL4Kurs6 also results in a significant reduction in lifespan when flies are deprived of food alone.

Expression of sNPFdsRNA.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4sNPF.2.4 decreases body weight and size by 12-18% compared to control siblings.

Expression of sNPFdsRNA.Scer\UAS using Scer\GAL4MJ94 has little effect on size.

Flies expressing two copies of sNPFdsRNA.Scer\UAS using Scer\GAL4Ilp2.PR are of similar size to wild type.

Expression of sNPFdsRNA.Scer\UAS using Scer\GAL4MJ94 decreases the size of fat body cells by 38%.

Expression of sNPFdsRNA.Scer\UAS using Scer\GAL4MJ94 increases median lifespan by 16-21%.

In adults, expression of sNPFdsRNA.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4MJ94 significantly decreases the fraction of fed flies (assayed by uptake of coloured food fed to the animals for 10 minutes) compared with controls. In third instar feeding larvae, expression of sNPFdsRNA.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4hs.PB significantly decreases the fraction of fed larvae (assayed by uptake of coloured food fed to the animals for 10 minutes) compared with controls. In wandering larvae, expression of sNPFdsRNA.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4unspecified has no effect on the fraction of fed larvae (assayed by uptake of coloured food) compared with controls. Adult flies expressing sNPFdsRNA.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4MJ94 do not show a difference in size and weight compared to control flies.
