The hybrid female offspring of a cross between homozygous Rab9Df06390 D.melanogaster females to D.mauritiana males show greater viability than the hybrid female offspring of a cross between Rab9D+ D.melanogaster females to D.mauritiana males.

Approximately 25% of hybrid male offspring of a cross between homozygous Rab9Df06390 D.melanogaster females to D.mauritiana males are able to form a pseudopupa, which do not exhibit necrotic tissue patches for up to 5 weeks. In contrast, only 13% of hybrid male offspring of a cross between Rab9D+ D.melanogaster females to D.mauritiana males are able to form pseudopupae and they typically show necrotic tissue within 2 weeks of pupariation.
