Flies expressing Or7aScer\UAS.T:Hsap\MYC under the control of Scer\GAL4Or22a.8197 in a Df(2L)dp-79b/Dp(2;2)dppd21 background (called Δhalo) show an increased electrophysiological response to either 2-ethylpyrazine or 2-methylpyrazine.
When Or7aScer\UAS.T:Hsap\MYC is driven by Scer\GAL4Or22a.8197 in Df(2L)dp-79b/Dp(2;2)dppd21 (Δhalo) flies, mutant animals exhibit a strong response to exposure to 1-hexanol and E2-hexanal in the ab3A neuron. A strong response is not seen in response to exposure to ethyl acetate, pentyl acetate, ethyl butyrate, methyl salicylate, 1-octen-3-ol, 2,3-butanedione, 2-heptanone or geranyl acetate. When Or7aScer\UAS.T:Hsap\MYC is driven by Scer\GAL4Or22a.8197 in Df(2L)dp-79b/Dp(2;2)dppd21 (Δhalo) flies, the spontaneous firing rate of the ab3A neuron is seen to be similar to the ab4a neuron, the neuron that normally expresses Or7a. When Or7aScer\UAS.T:Hsap\MYC is driven by Scer\GAL4Or83b.7.087 in the maxillary palp, the neurons in the palp acts to E2-hexanal exposure in the way expected of to the ab4a neuron, the neuron that normally expresses Or7a.
