PBac{RB}Eaat2e03003 is inserted in exon 6 of Eaat2.
Eaat2e03003 appears morphologically normal and presents no locomotor or phototaxis impairments. However, taurine levels in the brain are significantly reduced compared to that of wild-type flies.
Eaat2e03003 mutants display decreased avoidance å in the presence of a high concentration of propionic acid, compared with wild-type flies, but no modification of the avoidance response to benzaldehyde. In gustatory tests, both mutant and control flies are normally attracted to sucrose; however, Eaat2e03003 mutants present a higher salt sensitivity, being repulsed by low and high salt concentrations.
