Exd2EY03872 mutant embryos and pupae are smaller than controls but morphologically normal otherwise, the pupariation time is longer relative to wild-type. Both male and female mutant flies show significantly extended lifespan but the effect is more pronounced in females. The fecundity (number of eggs laid) of Exd2EY03872 females declines more rapidly with age than in controls as does the number of germline stem cells in mutant germaria; the mitochondrial network in these germaria is disorganized.
