      Homozygous eyes (generated using the eyFLP method) are disorganised and sometimes contain melanotic masses. Ommatidia show polarity defects and multiple ommatidia have varying numbers of rhabdomeres, with both missing and ectopic rhabdomeres observed. Spaces are observed between ommatidia, suggesting possible retinal degeneration.
