rough endoplasmic reticulum & eye photoreceptor cell
ninaGP330 animals exhibit defects in the function of abdominal lateral pentascolopidial chordotonal organ lch5 (in third instar larvae) and Johnston organ (in adults) mechanoreceptors compared to controls.
Electroretinogram data shows that in ninaGP330 mutant flies, a bright blue light stimulus fails to induce a prolonged depolarising after-potential. The ultrastucture of photoreceptor cells in these mutants is abnormal: R1-6 rhabdomere's are reduced in size and there is an excessive accumulation of rough endoplasmic reticulum compared to wild-type.
ninaGP330 is rescued by ninaG+t3.8
ninaG+t3.8 rescues the prolonged depolarising after-potential response to bright blue light lost in ninaGP330 mutants.
