Excision of the P{GawB} element.
The total amount of cuticular hydrocarbons and the relative proportions of linear, desaturated and methyl branched cuticular hydrocarbons is the same in mutant and control males.
The total amount of cuticular hydrocarbons is the same in mutant and control females. The mutant females show a significant increase in the relative proportion of methyl branched cuticular hydrocarbons compared to control females.
Homozygous males show a normally high ability to discriminate between male and female control flies in a courtship assay, having a significantly higher courtship index towards females than towards males.
Homozygous males and females have normal cuticular hydrocarbon (CH) profiles (as measured by the desaturation index).
