Expression of ftzNTS.hs, following a heat shock 2 hours after egg laying, causes a pair-rule phenotype. The number of embryos showing a complete version of this phenotype, in which only T2, A1, A3, A5, A7 and, occasionally A8 denticles are present, is lower than when embryos express ftzhs.T:Hsap\MYC (~27% vs. ~42%). However, the overall number of embryos affected is similar to ftzhs.T:Hsap\MYC-expressing embryos as a higher proportion of ftzNTS.hs-expressing embryos show a partial segmentation phenotype.
