CalxA mutant flies that express Calx1.hs.PW show an essentially wild-type visual response and normal morphology is restored to the eyes. However, the Na+/Ca+ exchange current that is missing in CalxA photoreceptors can only be partially restored when these photoreceptors express Calx1.hs.PW.
