Expression of vgdsRNA.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4Dll-md23 or Scer\GAL4en-e16E results in a reduction in adult wing size in both an autonomous and nonautonomous manner; greater reductions in size are seen when flies are raised at higher temperatures, at least in the case of Scer\GAL4Dll-md23-mediated expression. The reduction in size of the adult wing is not associated with changes in cell death or cell size during imaginal development.
Clones of cells expressing vgdsRNA.Scer\UAS in the prospective wing blade of the wing imaginal disc frequently (81%) show an atypical morphology: they become narrower where the amount of vg is highest, thus forming a triangular shape pointing towards the prospective wing margin.
Cell clones expressing vgdsRNA.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4αTub84B.PL (generated using the MARCM technique) in the prospective wing blade of the wing disc have a significantly longer doubling time (lower rate of proliferation) compared to controls.
Expression of vgdsRNA.Scer\UAS produces dsRNA which results in dsRNA interference (RNAi) of the vg gene.
