Mutated form of EfSec which has a deletion of less than 1kb, carries two TAA stop codons and has a frameshift.
Adult eEFSecKO46 flies fed on corn meal food do not exhibit any significant reproductive or lifespan changes compared to wild-type flies.
Adult eEFSecKO46 flies fed a chemically defined diet, which includes Grace's insect medium, low melting point agarose, and p-hydroxybenzoic acid methyl ester, exhibit a 44% reduction in their mean lifespan, compared to that of flies fed corn meal food. In addition, this chemically-controlled diet does not support the development of flies to adult animals. Survivorship of flies on the diet supplemented with or without 100nM sodium selenite is identical.
Mutant flies have a normal lifespan and their response to oxidative stress is indistinguishable from wild type.
