Imprecise excision of the P{lacW}Zfrp8k13705 insertion, resulting in a deletion that removes some Zfrp8 sequences and removes the tamo promoter and 5' end of the tamo coding region. Approximately 6kb of the original inserted element remains.
tamoSM183 flies (Df(2R)SM183 homozygotes in which Zfrp8 function has been rescued by expression of Zfrp8Scer\UAS.P\T.cMa under the control of Scer\GAL4arm.PS) have somewhat reduced viability and female fertility is strongly compromised. Early oogenesis appears to proceed normally, but the development of egg chambers stops before stage 10 and the follicles disintegrate. Females lay only 10% as many eggs as wild-type females and only 16% of these eggs develop to the blastoderm stage. Approximately half of these developing embryos show disruption along the dorsal-ventral axis; dorsally derived structures such as the dorsal epidermis and Filzkorper are reduced and the ventral denticle bands are expanded. The remaining developing embryos have almost normal cuticle patterns, but do not usually hatch.
tamoSM183 is partially rescued by tamoUASp.cMa/Scer\GAL4arm.PS
