In gclA43-33/Df(2R)H3E1 mutant embryos, in which only two primordial germ cells on average are incorporated into the embryonic gonad, an average of about 60 primordial germ cells are generated by the middle of the third instar larval stage (compared to approximately 100 in wild-type). This division rate (on average five divisions in three days) is higher than in the wild-type.
