Coexpression of Or83bScer\UAS.cBa and Or43aScer\UAS.T:Avic\GFP-EGFP, under the control of Scer\GAL4Gr21a.9.323, reconstitutes a functional odorant receptor as measured in neurons that also express the calcium-sensitive reporter Ggal\MLCK::Rat\CamG-CaMP.Scer\UAS.T:Avic\GFP-cpEGFP. Without the expression of Or83bScer\UAS.cBa and Or43aScer\UAS.T:Avic\GFP-EGFP the Ggal\MLCK::Rat\CamG-CaMP.Scer\UAS.T:Avic\GFP-cpEGFP-expressing neurons can respond to CO2 but not cyclohexanol. Once Or83bScer\UAS.cBa and Or43aScer\UAS.T:Avic\GFP-EGFP are expressed, neurons can respond to cyclohexanol, cyclohexanone, hexanol, benzaldehyde, isoamyl acetate, and geranyl acetate; odors specific to the Or43a receptor.
